Indoor environmental quality and energy demand

Monitoring the indoor environmental parameters means to analyse  the factors that contribute to define the global comfort conditions (thermal comfort, indoor air quality, visual comfort and acoustics’). Keeping high levels of comfort indoor is an objective to reach in all the occupied environments, since it is cause of general wellness, and productivity increasing in working places. However maintaining a high level of comfort is often related to significant energy costs, and find an equilibrate balance between these two factors is one of the aim of the research. Monitoring of the indoor environment has two main goals: the IEQ certification, according with the international standards on comfort, and the building and systems diagnostic through the monitored data analysis.

The environmental parameters measure can be planned for short or long periods of time, and spot measurements can be done as focus investigations for short times. In all these cases monitoring plans need to be accurately designed according with the aim of the subsequent elaboration analyses. The research is conducted introducing the new available technologies in terms of instruments and communications systems (e.g. wireless sensors, cloud platforms, etc.), and it always look for new and effectiveness results representation methods.
