Superinsulation materials for building envelope components

Super Insulating Materials (SIM) such as types of Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIP), Gas Filled Panels (GFP) and Aerogel Based Products (ABP), are characterised by a lower thermal conductivity if compared with traditional insulating materials. For this reason they shows a big potential both for new high efficiency building components and for existing building energy refurbishment, where it is possible to obtain high thermal performances in a very low thickness. However there are still some obstacles for their application, depending on lack of knowledge and difficult on assess their thermal behaviour, which is influenced by thermal bridging effects, durability, dynamic thermal properties and technological assembly solutions .

The aim of the research activities are focused on one hand, to investigate the thermal properties and behaviour when these technologies are applied to real building cases using advanced numerical modelling,  on the other hand, to develop new experimental methodologies to test the effective thermal performance of these materials and systems.

Objectives:

-        Investigate the thermal performance of new super insulating material, in different building application.

-        Pursue new strategies to optimize the thermal insulation of buildings

-        Study the problems associated with new innovative insulating materials,

-        Analysis of innovative and responsive technologies of building envelope that use (SIM)
