Building Energy Efficient design and Cost Optimal analysis

The EPBD asks Member States to implement a cost-optimal methodology to benchmark minimum requirements for the energy performance of buildings and building elements.  A cost optimal level is defined as the energy performance level which leads to the lowest cost during the estimated economic lifecycle. It must be calculated in accordance with a comparative methodology framework that is based on the global cost method. This one considers the initial investment, the sum of the annual costs for every year and the final value, all with reference to the starting year of the calculation period.

In this research field a methodology for identifying the cost-optimal levels for the Italian building stock is investigated, following the Guidelines accompanying the Commission Delegated Regulation No.

244/2012. This activity is strictly connected to the official Ministry of Economic Development research, through the cooperation with ENEA. The global cost method is then applied to national Reference Buildings in order to assess the cost optimal levels. In detail, different packages of energy efficiency measures are considered. The energy performance and the global cost calculations are performed according to UNI/TS 11300 and UNI EN 15459, respectively. Furthermore,  the energy consumptions of the RB and the impact of the improvement measures are also assessed by a dynamical simulation.
