Lightweight walls with improved thermal and acoustical performances

The research is aimed at designing and testing in laboratory and in-field innovative lightweight walls made of gypsum board or wood panels which have high sound insulation and thermal properties, improved thermal inertia, low cost and easiness of assembly. In this context the wall system INTESA (dry façade systems with high integration and efficiency for living) has been recently developed. The project INTESA is funded by Regione Piemonte in the framework of the Sustainable Building Innovation Cluster, and is carried out in cooperation with some small, medium and large enterprises of the Piedmont Region. The façade system INTESA is well integrated with the building components, providing an inner gap for the plant location and an easy fastening system for windows. One of the ultimate goals is to develop INTESA as a lightweight prefabricated modular wall, for which all thermal and acoustic bridges are solved.

The project includes also the construction of a prototype/demonstrator of such a façade system for monitoring in the field of thermal and acoustical performance.
